Proctorio Mobile App

Overview

The Proctorio Mobile App allows test-takers to complete mobile-enabled exams on a supported iOS or Android device. The app is only available for exams where mobile testing has been enabled by the exam administrator. Launching the Mobile App

Mobile exams must be opened from the learning management system (LMS) or assessment platform. The app cannot be used to launch an exam directly.

When a mobile-enabled exam is opened, test-takers are presented with a launch option based on their device:

The Proctorio exam launch screen as it appears on a desktop or laptop computer when a mobile-enabled exam is opened from a learning management system or assessment platform. A QR code is displayed prominently on the screen, instructing the test-taker to scan it with their mobile device to open the Proctorio Mobile App and begin the exam from their phone or tablet. This screen appears in place of the standard browser extension-based launch because the exam has been configured to support the mobile proctoring experience. Accompanying instructional text explains that if no QR code is visible, either the Proctorio extension is already installed and active, or mobile support is not enabled for that particular exam. The QR code bridges the desktop LMS session with the mobile device that will be used for the exam. On a desktop or laptop: A QR code is displayed on the exam page. Scan the code with a mobile device to open the app. If no QR code appears, the extension is already installed and active, or mobile is not supported for the exam.

A Launch Mobile App button is displayed prominently on the screen, allowing the test-taker to tap it and open the Proctorio Mobile App directly on their device. This interface appears in place of a QR code because the test-taker is already on the mobile device that will be used for the exam. Tapping the button redirects the user to the Proctorio Mobile App, where a series of pre-checks guide them through confirming that their device and testing environment meet security requirements before the exam begins. This screen represents the mobile-specific entry point into the Proctorio proctored exam experience. On a mobile device: A Launch Mobile App button is displayed. Tap it to open the app and begin.

Once launched, the app guides test-takers through a series of pre-checks to confirm the device and environment are secure. For step-by-step instructions, see Starting Your Proctorio Exam.

Troubleshooting

The following steps address common issues when installing or launching the Proctorio Mobile App.

The app says I need an "exam link provided by the exam administrator." Return to the exam page in your mobile browser, or sign in to your learning management system or assessment platform and open the exam. Then select the Launch Mobile App option. If a QR code is displayed instead, select it to proceed.

I don't have access to the App Store or Google Play Store. If your device is managed by your institution and access to app stores is restricted, you will not be able to install the Proctorio Mobile App directly. Contact your institution's IT department for assistance. They may be able to install the app on your behalf or grant temporary access to the app store.

I'm seeing the message "Unable to Use Mobile" but mobile is allowed for my exam. This message appears when your device is not supported by the Proctorio Mobile App. Take the exam from a desktop or laptop device instead, or try a different mobile device that meets the minimum system requirements.

The app won't open or crashes on launch.

  1. Confirm your device meets the minimum system requirements. See Exam and System Requirements.
  2. Check for any available updates to the Proctorio Mobile App in your device's app store.
  3. Check for any available operating system updates on your device.
  4. Close all other open apps, then relaunch the Proctorio Mobile App.
  5. If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall the app from the app store.

The QR code won't scan.

  1. Make sure your mobile device's camera has permission to be used by your browser or the Proctorio Mobile App.
  2. Ensure there is adequate lighting and that the QR code is fully visible on your screen.
  3. Try increasing the brightness on the device displaying the QR code.
  4. If scanning still fails, contact your exam administrator for an alternative launch method.

I'm having connection issues during my exam. Confirm you have a stable Wi-Fi or mobile data connection. If the connection drops during an exam, the app will attempt to reconnect automatically. For additional guidance, contact your exam administrator or Proctorio Support.

FAQ

Can I use the Proctorio Mobile App for any exam?
No. The mobile app is only available for exams where mobile testing has been enabled by the exam administrator. If mobile is not supported for your exam, you will see a message directing you to use a desktop or laptop device instead.
Can I start my exam directly from the app?
No. You must open your exam from your LMS or assessment platform first. The app is launched from the exam page, either by scanning a QR code (from a desktop or laptop) or tapping the Launch Mobile App button (from a mobile device).
Why does the app ask for so many permissions?
The Proctorio Mobile App requests device permissions, such as access to your camera and microphone, to secure your exam session and record any information required by your exam administrator's settings. Proctorio only uses these permissions during an active exam attempt. For more information about how Proctorio handles your data, see Data Privacy and Security.
What if I need to make an emergency call during my exam?
You can exit the app at any time in an emergency by tapping the exit button. Exiting the app will end your proctoring session. Depending on your exam settings, you may or may not be able to resume your attempt afterward. If you are unsure whether you can re-enter your exam, tap the support icon in the app to chat with a Proctorio Support agent, who can confirm whether re-entry is permitted.
Can I remove the app after my exam?
Yes. You may uninstall the Proctorio Mobile App from your device after submitting your exam.
