Proctorio's Role in Integrity

Proctorio supports assessment integrity by providing technology that informs human judgment rather than replacing it. Our platform integrates directly into existing learning management systems and exam administration platforms, allowing exams to be created, administered, and completed using familiar workflows. Exam administrators apply Proctorio to assessments they already use, and test-takers access proctored exams in the same environment where they learn and complete other coursework. Proctorio operates in the background, supporting assessment integrity without requiring separate logins, new portals, or changes to established processes.

  1. Get Proctorio: Proctorio is integrated directly into an organization's learning management system or assessment platform, allowing exam administrators to work within familiar workflows. At a minimum, all users install the Secure Exam Proctor browser extension, which supports creating, administering, or completing proctored assessments based on each user's role.

  2. Configure Exam: Administrators define how integrity is supported by selecting from recording, security, identity verification, and intervention options. Settings can be tailored for automated proctoring, live proctoring, or hybrid models. Administrators control which behaviors are monitored or flagged and how Proctorio should respond during the exam, allowing the integrity approach to align with the exam's purpose, risk level, and accessibility needs.

  3. Administer Exam: Test-takers complete exams using the delivery model selected by the administrator, including on-demand, scheduled, or live-proctored sessions. During the exam, Proctorio's AI observes and organizes relevant activity based on configured settings, while live proctors may provide real-time oversight and just-in-time support when enabled. The system intervenes only when settings require it or when the integrity of the exam or platform is at risk.

  4. Review Exam: Proctorio does not make determinations about misconduct or outcomes. Instead, it provides exam administrators with structured data, session recordings, metrics, and review tools that add context to what occurred during the exam. All decisions remain with the administrator, ensuring that technology supports, but never replaces, human judgment.

Because expanding access is central to our mission, Proctorio is designed to integrate with a wide range of learning management systems and assessment platforms and to support most commonly used devices.

Proctorio supports LTI v1.1 and v1.3 integrations with Blackboard, Brightspace, Canvas, and Moodle, and offers flexible API integrations for other platforms.

Who decides what data is collected and what is considered suspicious activity?
Exam administrators determine which recording, security, and identity-verification options are enabled and which behaviors are monitored or flagged. Proctorio applies a limited set of fixed safeguards and system indicators to help protect the integrity of the exam and the platform itself, but administrators control how integrity is defined for each assessment.
Is Proctorio an automated decision-making tool?
No. Proctorio does not make determinations about misconduct or exam outcomes. It collects and organizes exam data for review and provides tools to help administrators understand what occurred during a session. All final decisions are made by the exam reviewer or administering organization.
