Performing a Desk Scan or Environment Scan
Overview
Desk scans are optional requirements set by the exam administrator. Scans are used to confirm the integrity of the exam environment and ensure that only authorized items or persons are present.
To assist test-takers, we've provided video demonstrations of how to perform a desk, as well as a more comprehensive 360° environment scan below. These videos provide general guidance: please follow any scanning instructions provided by your exam administrator.
Preparing for a Scan
- Carefully review all instructions provided by your exam administrator.
- Remove any prohibited items, such as notes or cell phones.
- Remove or cover any items that you do not want to be included in the scan.
- If your camera or device is fixed or not easily moved, retrieve a handheld mirror to reflect your desktop or environment into the camera.
Performing a Scan
Based on your exam administrator's instructions, you may be asked to show your desktop or immediate workspace, or perform a full 360° environment scan. Review the demonstration videos below for best practices, but always follow your exam administrator's specific instructions.
Click Start to begin.
Show all required areas and materials as instructed by your exam administrator (see the Desk Scan and Environment Scan demo videos below).
The screen will flaash and the Done option will appear automatically after 15 seconds, but you may continue recording unitl after you have finished showing all required areas and materials.
Click Done to complete the scan.
Desk Scan
A desk scan is normally limited to your immediate workspace. As a general rule, it's best to show everything within arm's reach of your testing device, including any allowed exam materials, such as writing instruments, notes, or scratch paper.
Environment Scan
An environment scan often requires you to provide a full 360° view of your space. Therefore, it's best to find a private area to take your exam.
