Proctorio was founded to expand access to secure online assessments, and our mission includes supporting all test-takers regardless of ability or circumstance. We comply with recognized accessibility standards, undergo regular audits, and are committed to providing an inclusive and fair platform.
Compliance
Proctorio products comply with the following accessibility standards:
- WCAG 2.1 AA standards of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
- Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
- EN 301 549 Accessibility requirements for public procurement of ICT products and services in Europe.
Users can download and view our Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) and Higher Education Community Vendor Assessment Toolkit (HECVAT) in the Proctorio Trust Center.
Accessibility Features
LMS-Based Accommodations
Proctorio supports native LMS accommodations, such as time extensions and additional attempts, so test-takers receive the same adjustments they would in a traditional classroom.
Assistive Technology Support
Proctorio works with common assistive technologies, including screen readers and Braille devices, and incorporates ARIA notifications to improve navigation for visually impaired test-takers.
Customizable Exam Settings
Administrators have full control over exam settings, with flexible options that make it easy to meet the needs of test-takers with diverse requirements.
Proctored Exam Exceptions
When needed, administrators can grant exam exceptions that allow certain test-takers to complete their exam without Proctorio. This option supports individuals with comprehensive accommodations or those who must test with a live proctor.
Equitable Exam Tools
On-screen tools such as calculators (basic, scientific, or graphing) and a digital whiteboard can be enabled to provide fair access for test-takers who need alternatives to physical materials.
High Visibility Mode
At the start of each exam, test-takers are guided through pre-checks to ensure they and their device are ready. During this process, a high visibility mode is available for visually impaired test-takers. This mode:
- increases font size by at least 200%
- adjusts page colors and fonts to improve contrast and readability
- removes background images
High visibility mode applies only to Proctorio's pre-check pages and does not alter the appearance of the exam itself.

Proctorio supports many popular screen readers and text-to-speech tools; however, performance may vary depending on the exam platform, browser, and operating system. We recommend testing your preferred screen reader on a practice exam before beginning your actual exam.
